Messing with my blog

Posted by Norm on April 8th, 2008 filed in General, Technology

I have spent most of my day finally getting to grips with some of the finer points of my website. I have been getting under the bonnet of cPanel and some of the advanced features that entails. I finally think I have worked everything out and now know enough about the workings of it all that I shouldn’t need to pester Kieran every five minutes!

Learning how things work brings such an enormous sense of satisfaction that I genuinely cannot understand people’s attitude of well if it works it works and if it doesn’t it doesn’t. I think that people who think like that are missing out on so much of life and its wonders. It is one of the main points I will take away from my university experience - we are expected to have that desire, that need to understand what we do and why we do it and how that impacts on our lives.

I think today’s experience has led me to want to carry on learning about web development and how I can go about improving this site and maybe making more.

Glad you’ve been having fun playing around with things in CPanel. There is quite a plethora of toys in there no?

Apologies it took so long to get your access details! It was only when Liz contacted me about wanting hers that I realised I never sent you yours either!

Have you had a play with the stats yet? Its interesting to see all the different type of visitor one gets and what search terms are used to find one’s site :)

I’ve had cPanel access from the start, so I am not sure where the confusion was - it’s why I was surprised that Liz couldn’t access hers when I was showing her a few things.

The reason for the blog post was because until now I haven’t really gotten under the hood so to speak.

I do like the stats in it, it really is quite interesting to see where traffic to the site comes from.

The main reason I got playing was trying to sort out Izzy’s project for her, which was really quite fun!

I think if I mess with stuff, I’ll break it!

Remember what happened to my other blog :-( Damn I miss it, so much!

Ah sorry, I had just assumed that because I hadn’t sent Liz’s details I hadn’t sent yours. indeed I had no record of having sent yours. Perhaps I sent yours in a random e-mail or IM or something.

Anyway, I’m glad you are having fun with it all. Its so easy to get sucked into a world of web development - look what happened to me! Before you know it you’ll be writing your own plugins, perhaps even your own complete applications :)

Liz, just avoid anything marked “Delete” or “Remove” and you should be fine ;)
